Ellen graduated from the University of Georgia with a BBA in Accounting, and her skill-set has accumulated throughout 15 years in the professional sector as:
• Development Officer/Grants Administration and Writer for Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s Foundation in Louisville, KY and Haywood Regional Medical Center Foundation in Waynesville, NC, managing $350K from multiple funding sources to open a free healthcare clinic and crafting grant proposals totaling $1.4M.
• Business Officer for the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching in Cullowhee, NC, administering $6.4M state budget and foundation grants totaling $1M to provide professional development programs for teachers.
• Project Coordinator for Haywood County Schools’ 21st Century Community Learning Centers in Waynesville, NC, directing a $370K federal budget and securing another $574K state grant to launch 3 community learning centers for at-risk students.
• Commercial Lender and Corporate Budget Officer for SunTrust Banks in Atlanta, GA, acting as Assistant Manager of a commercial branch and assisting with the annual corporate budget consolidation
Ellen is married to Tom Sither, an Emergency Room Physician. She has two daughters, two stepdaughters and two stepsons ranging in age from 19 to 26 years old. Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Ellen relocated with her family to Western North Carolina in 1996 to take advantage of Waynesville’s uniqueness and small-town, community atmosphere. Tom grew up in the Washington D.C. area, although his family roots go back to Lexington, Kentucky. Tom received his medical degree from, and continues to be an avid sports fan of, the University of Kentucky.
