TOMMY ARAKAS

Tommy Arakas' middle name should be "service". He is an Asheville native and is a descendant of a family long dedicated to hard work and service. The Arakas family has been in the business of serving Asheville since 1915 through a variety of businesses. As the owners of the Plaza Cafe in Biltmore Village, in the McGeachey building, currently the New Morning Gallery; at Wink's Drive on Tunnel Road; the Airport Restaurant and at Rak's Downtown Cafe in the BB&T building, Tommy worked side by side with his family to provide excellent service to his customers. Growing up in this environment taught him lasting life lessons of work ethic, customer service and discipline which he carried on into other successful pursuits in adulthood. These attributes are readily noticed by his real estate clients and they help him build trusting relationships with his customers.

He graduated from Lee H. Edwards High School, now Asheville High, and then attended N.C. State University where he earned a B.S. in Textile Technology and Economics. He was very active in campus affairs and served as vice president of the Interfraternity Council, Phi Kappa Tau fraternity treasurer, chairman of the Student Judicial Board and a member of the Chancellor's Liaisons Committee.

After college he became a marketing representative for Eastman Kodak and worked in the corporate offices in both New York and Los Angeles. His travels have taken him to Europe, specifically Greece, Mexico, El Salvador and many of the states in America. As so often happens, his life came full circle when he decided he missed the beautiful mountains of Asheville and he was ready to exchange the corporate life for the lifestyle of Western North Carolina. He proved that, indeed, one CAN come home again. He is past president of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, past president of the Land of the Sky Shrine Club, past chairman on the John P. Chakales Memorial Mission/St. Joseph's Hospitals Golf Tournament fundraiser.

He has had his real estate license since 1990 and is committed to giving his real estate clients the same loyalty and dedication as he gives to his community. Tommy and his wife, Sue, reside in north Asheville and have two adult children.
