Buy an entire district from ‘The Hunger Games’ for $1.4 million

henryriver4

NYDailyNews.com

You can make the bleakness of District 12 your own by purchasing this North Carolina property that is only 70 miles from Asheville, NC.Did you see the bleakness of District 12 in “The Hunger Games” and want to make it your own?

The entirety of Henry River Mill Village - where parts of the movie was filmed - is for sale for $1.4 million. Located about 70 miles from Ashville, N.C. near Hildebran, the 72-acre plot of land was the site of a mill that burned down in 1977. There’s 20-plus remaining buildings, including a company store, giving it a distinct ghost-town feel.

Of all the locations, the Henry River Mill Village has a backstory that’s nearly as colorful as the plot of the movie. The mill, which opened in 1905, produced fine yarn. The village was designed as a planned community with company stores, walkways and green spaces. In 1966, a sheriff was shot and killed in the village by a mill worker. By the time owner Wade Shepherd, 83, bought the town, three years after the mill closed, there were Thursday night poker games on the street, “and by Sunday afternoon, they were all drunk and shooting.”
