ASHEVILLE — Troy Ball doesn’t fit the appearance of a mountain moonshiner, although her grandmother “used to make peach brandy in the bathtub,” she said.
Ball is opening Western North Carolina’s first legal craft distillery and will make a moonshinelike white corn liquor, to be sold through North Carolina’s state liquor store system and eventually beyond. A primary ingredient is a rare heirloom corn grown in McDowell County.
