About the Lake
Lake William C. Bowen is one of three man-made lakes supplying water to the Spartanburg Water Authority (SWA). It was formed in 1960 with a dam across the South Pacolet River. The lake has over 1600 acres of water surface and 43 miles of shoreline. The depth varies in the fall and winter, with a maximum of 40 feet, and is carefully regulated and monitored by the SWA.
Lake Bowen is located 40 miles south of the Asheville Regional Airport on I-26 and about 25 miles from the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport. The town of Boiling Springs, SC, is only minutes away and provides convenient access to shopping, restaurants, churches, theaters, and more.
The lake allows boating, personal watercraft, water skiing, wakeboarding, tubing, and canoeing. There is one public access area with picnic facilities, playgrounds, and boat launching ramps. The lake is great for fishing and has a variety of freshwater fish species, including largemouth bass.
Lake William C. Bowen is surrounded by a wide variety of homes, both seasonal and year-round, ranging in price from the mid-200's to over a million. There are no commercial establishments on the lake.
