Welcome to Lake Lure
In the heart of the Hickory Nut Gorge, the town of Lake Lure has become a destination for visitors and second-home buyers charmed by its beauty. With just over 1,000 permanent residents, Lake Lure is located in Rutherford County about 28 miles southeast of Asheville via U.S. 74A.
Formed by the Rocky Broad River, which winds through the Hickory Nut Gorge, the 720 acre Lake Lure has been recognized as one of the most beautiful man-made lakes in the world by National Geographic. The town is a tourist destination growing from 1000 to 10000 residents in the summer months. The swimming beach is open Memorial Day through Labor Day and is staffed with lifeguards. The beach also include a waterpark and picnic area.
Chimney Rock is adjacent to Lake Lure and is an incorporated village of about 175 year round residents. Chimney Rock is one of North Carolina’s most popular tourist attractions, attracting a quarter-million visitors every year. Beyond Chimney Rock itself, the park offers 3.5 miles of hiking trails, ranging from easy to strenuous, that lead to several other points of interest.
