About Me

I’m incredibly thankful that I grew up in Waynesville, North Carolina. Everywhere my grandfather went, I did also. He helped me form many valuable personal and business relationships. I was a multi-sport athlete at Tuscola High School. I was fortunate to compete collegiately at Lees-McRae College, Berry College, and Piedmont College prior to finishing my educational career at Western Carolina University, where I graduated with a B.S. in Criminology.

I have been heavily involved in leadership at my local church for many years and have served as the Chairman of the Board of Deacons for a couple of years. I am grateful to have a history of volunteering with the Haywood County Fairgrounds alongside my grandfather. My experience in life has helped me to build my skills in communication, awareness, and care.

In my personal time outside of real estate, you can most likely find me with my family and especially my grandfather, who is my best friend. You may find me with my friends, gardening, fishing, hunting, traveling, or officiating football and basketball.

I believe that dreams are meant to come true! My dream from the time I was 5 years old was to be a professional basketball player. I was able to live out my dream by competing at the professional level in England, Scotland, Wales, and Norway. I know what it is like to have dreams become reality through working extremely hard and being resilient through adversity. Now, my dream is to help anyone and everyone I come across along their path in real estate. I believe we are all put on this Earth to serve one another in some form or fashion. My grandfather raised me on the principles of character and integrity. I’ve had the privilege to experience each phase of my life in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. Having been so deeply rooted here, I can provide an incredible experience that is truly authentic to local mountain hospitality.

I started my own company after graduating college and worked as a subcontractor inspecting structures after catastrophic storms. I traveled all over the country to areas affected by hurricanes, tornadoes, hail storms, and wind storms. During this time, I learned a great deal about homes and how they were built. I wrote reports for insurance adjusters for filed claims so they would have detailed information on how to assist their clients in some of the most discouraging times of their lives.

Client satisfaction will be achieved through character, integrity, availability, and open and honest communication. I will provide that through my work ethic and dedication to whomever I have the privilege of serving.

I have bought and sold 7 homes in my lifetime. The toughest one involved issues with flood plains. This transaction was even tougher involving a foreclosure that forced Alex to deal with an out-of-state bank and title company. He also had to deal repeatedly with the listing agent. This home had been empty for two years. All the plumbing had frozen and busted in many places. There had been previous roof leaks etc. I can't count how many times we had to have Alex return to this house, but I'm sure it was easily 20-30 times. The process of MANY home inspections, and existing issues would have worn any real estate agent to a frazzle. Alex showed up EVERY time we asked!...and always on time, smiling, polite, and helpful! How is the tax bill of a home determined in North Carolina?

Real property is appraised at 100% of market value and includes land, buildings, structures, and improvements. State law requires counties to reappraise every eight years, but many counties reappraise every four. A bill can be a combination of tax rates. For example, a home inside the City of Asheville and Asheville City School districts will have three separate tax rates represented on a bill: the Buncombe County rate, the City of Asheville rate, and the Asheville City School rate. All rates are totaled to calculate the total tax liability. Tax rate estimates for our mountain communities can be found on page 127 of the Allen Tate/Beverly-Hanks Welcome magazine.
