Is there a best time of the year to buy a house?
Generally, the best time of the year to buy a home is in late summer or fall. There are still plenty of homes for sale, but without the intense competition found during the spring selling season. Sellers are also known for being a bit more flexible this time of the year. With school starting and—dare we say—the cold weather coming, sellers get increasingly anxious about finding a buyer. Zillow reports that the highest number of listings with at least one price reduction are found August–September. The deeper into fall buyers venture, the more significant the discounts they will find, but often with less choice. If you are planning a home purchase during the next several months, now is the time to begin.
