About Me
I traveled to Western North Carolina for many years, but I knew from my first visit to Asheville that I would settle here. The vibrant, colorful, and diverse nature of Asheville and its surrounding communities were too much to resist. As a resident, I'm involved in and committed to participating in activities that promote community, environmental sustainability, spiritual diversity, and inclusiveness.
After graduating from Baylor University with a B.A. in History, I earned an M.A. in History from Louisiana State University. Then, I taught English for a year in Thailand, where I became immersed in Thai culture. I was a K–12 educator in Louisiana and North Carolina. Over the years, I have traveled extensively in the United States, Europe, Africa, Asia, Central America, and the Caribbean.
I am happily married to my wonderful husband David. I am also a mother, step-mother and grandmother.. My greatest joys and challenges in life have been learning the grace and grit required to parent these amazing children, and watching them contribute their talent, ideas, and vision to others. I live in Weaverville with my husband and extraordinary Labradoodles, Brody and Jack. I love dogs, trees, cooking, travel, and supporting the arts.

I operate all over Buncombe and Henderson Counties, as well as parts of Haywood, Madison, Polk and McDowell, generally staying within a 45 minute drive to Asheville. I have extensive knowledge neighborhoods and topography, so whether you are looking for a view or a community, I am here to help. I also stay on tope of upcoming developments, market conditions, and local trends. I have my finger on the pulse of the great Asheville real estate market.

We had the privilege of working with Cathy on two occasions; the first was when she helped us find a piece of land that was exactly what we wanted to build our dream home on and the second was the selling of our current home. Our process was not without challenges due to multiple delays with the construction of our new home but Cathy was always just a phone call away. I can't think of a single time when we reached out to her whether phone or text, she either answered the phone every single time or responded to our texts within a short period of time. During the transition period of building our home and trying to time the right moment to sale our current home we continued to run into delays given the shortage of contractors and supplies right now. Despite this, Cathy would always check in periodically to say hi and see how things were progressing and let us know she was always there in the background if we and when we needed anything. When the time came to finally put the house on the market she offered suggestions for services like painting and she had professional photographs taken of our home. She even made sure she was here when the photographer came so she could help move/arrange/stage our belongings as needed to get the best views. She was always kind, patient and knowledgeable with any questions we asked. We had some further complications with delays that required us to proceed with the sale of the home but rent it back. Though we were lost and frustrated with situation, Cathy walked us through each step like it was just another step of the process and nothing to worry about. She brought calmness, new suggestions and ways to deal with the hurdles and never made us feel like we were causing her any stress. How is the tax bill of a home determined in North Carolina?
Real property is appraised at 100% of market value and includes land, buildings, structures, and improvements. State law requires counties to reappraise every eight years, but many counties reappraise every four. A bill can be a combination of tax rates. For example, a home inside the City of Asheville and Asheville City School districts will have three separate tax rates represented on a bill: the Buncombe County rate, the City of Asheville rate, and the Asheville City School rate. All rates are totaled to calculate the total tax liability. Tax rate estimates for our mountain communities can be found on page 127 of the Allen Tate/Beverly-Hanks Welcome magazine.
