About Me
Experience in sales, strong people skills, and knowledge of Western North Carolina allows me to be an excellent resource for both buyers and sellers.
Quickly after being born in San Francisco, my Asheville parents relocated our family back to Buncombe County. With those deep roots in the area, it's hard not to smile at some of Asheville's newer "attractions". For example, my first job was pumping gas at the Pure Station on Sweeten Creek Road in Royal Pines. I didn't remain a service station attendant for too long, in fact, I'm semi-retired from a 30-year career as a Skyland firefighter. I say semi-retired because I'm still a semi-active member today. My ability to solve "burning" problems and lead a team were two of the reasons I was promoted to Deputy Chief after only ten years of service. In 1988, Skyland was annexed into the City of Asheville and the Asheville Fire Department became my home until I retired as a Division Chief. After years fighting fires in the area, I definitely have an exciting story or two about most neighborhoods in Asheville. After my official retirement, I spent eight years as the National Sales Director with a Raleigh-based company successfully selling emergency services software to fire and EMS based departments all over the United States. I am excited to be working with Allen Tate / Beverly-Hanks; I've always enjoyed serving others, and I can't think of anything better than helping people to buy and sell homes. I'm eager to put my deeply rooted knowledge of the area, my sense of service, and sales experience to work for you. Give me a call today.

How is the tax bill of a home determined in North Carolina?
Real property is appraised at 100% of market value and includes land, buildings, structures, and improvements. State law requires counties to reappraise every eight years, but many counties reappraise every four. A bill can be a combination of tax rates. For example, a home inside the City of Asheville and Asheville City School districts will have three separate tax rates represented on a bill: the Buncombe County rate, the City of Asheville rate, and the Asheville City School rate. All rates are totaled to calculate the total tax liability. Tax rate estimates for our mountain communities can be found on page 127 of the Allen Tate/Beverly-Hanks Welcome magazine.
