We joined our backgrounds in public and private sector work to form a real estate team with the knowledge, experience, and connections to serve our clients and community at the highest level. Our families and friends are well established in the Western North Carolina region, and we know what it means to call this beautiful area of the country home. Katie Glicksberg

I grew up in Black Mountain, and I’m a proud graduate of UNC Asheville with a B.S. in Environmental Studies. In my free time, I can usually be found attending a local soccer game or tennis match for my teenage son, Killian, or hiking with our three rescue dogs. My husband, Scott, and I love to check out a concert at the many local venues or grab dinner and a drink at one of the amazing local restaurants and breweries that Asheville is known for. I also love to embrace my creative side, and spend a lot of time sewing or knitting, and making soap for local craft shows.

Jay Gerlach

I grew up in the Mountain State of West Virginia, and have always been drawn to the mountains. My wife, Amanda, and I moved to Asheville in early 2013, and desire to make the area our “forever home.” We are attracted to the spirit of the people here, as well as the natural beauty of the area. We’ve found Western North Carolina to be a perfect setting for raising our two daughters, Maya and Brooklyn. As a family, we enjoy hiking, taking advantage of the numerous parks in the area, hanging out on the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway, fishing, and attending our girls’ softball games and dance recitals.

I truly believe Western North Carolina has it all, and I’m excited to help others call this gorgeous region of the country home.

How is the tax bill of a home determined in North Carolina?

Real property is appraised at 100% of market value and includes land, buildings, structures, and improvements. State law requires counties to reappraise every eight years, but many counties reappraise every four. A bill can be a combination of tax rates. For example, a home inside the City of Asheville and Asheville City School districts will have three separate tax rates represented on a bill: the Buncombe County rate, the City of Asheville rate, and the Asheville City School rate. All rates are totaled to calculate the total tax liability. Tax rate estimates for our mountain communities can be found on page 127 of the Allen Tate/Beverly-Hanks Welcome magazine.

We actually did not select Beverly-Hanks or Jay Gerlach -- we called the number of the firm handling the housing development we were interested in and were transferred to the agent taking call-ins. HOWEVER, we have said over and over how fortunate we were that Jay was the one taking calls that day because he was absolutely wonderful. He listened to us, offered insights, shared his knowledge, and when he didn't know the answer, he told us he didn't and then went to work to find the answer. Jay was very thorough explaining everything about the contract, deposits, etc. We have made real estate purchases in the past, but we live in Maryland where things are a bit different. We were back in Maryland during the due diligence period, and Jay was extremely helpful. He even met the builder we are considering using at the lot since we could not be there ourselves. He also communicated with both the loan officer and closing law firm as needed. He additionally attended closing with us and it was so great to have him be there as we made everything official. Making this purchase was an important journey, and we feel so fortunate to have had Jay guiding and accompanying us along the way. We can honestly say Jay is the best real estate agent we have ever worked with, and we have worked with -- or attempted to work with (so many don't return phone calls) -- numerous agents over the years. He communicated so well -- emails, texts, calls -- that we felt like he was down the street and not hundreds of miles away. Our loan officer commented more than once how responsive Jay was and how quickly he sent her items they needed. And he is simply a quality individual -- all of the above words truly describe him. Purchasing property in a distant state is a scary concept, but we can honestly say we did not feel any different than we did purchasing property close by. And we also can honestly say this was the best real estate transaction experience we have ever had.
