LaBaron Garris

As a native of Asheville, LaBaron has an extensive knowledge of the area. He was educated in the Buncombe County School System and earned a BS degree in Middle Grade Education from Appalachian State University and a MA degree in Middle Grade Education from Western Carolina University.

After graduation, he taught in the North Carolina Public Schools for over nine years. When it was time for a change of pace he then enjoyed a long and successful sales career in marketing school supplies to public and private schools. His background in education certainly gave him the competitive edge in that field.

LaBaron has been a full-time Realtor since and again his educational background helped him to build a successful career in real estate. He loves educating clients that are unfamiliar with the area and is full of extra tidbits of information that only a native would have to share. He also loves to educate his clients on the intricacies of the real estate transaction, whether buying or selling, so they feel confident and comfortable with the important real estate decisions they are making.

With his experience in real estate sales, management, supervision and training, LaBaron sets the highest standards of ethics for himself and in his interactions with buyers, sellers and other agents.

Married to his wife of many years Doris, and raising their son and daughter together is a task of great pride and reward to LaBaron. They enjoy this season of their lives filled with the joy that only six grandchildren can bring.

When time allows, fly fishing is his hobby of choice which continues to be a special experience in our beautiful mountains. Other times taking a real break with his grown son as they head off to Yellowstone.

How is the tax bill of a home determined in North Carolina?

Real property is appraised at 100% of market value and includes land, buildings, structures, and improvements. State law requires counties to reappraise every eight years, but many counties reappraise every four. A bill can be a combination of tax rates. For example, a home inside the City of Asheville and Asheville City School districts will have three separate tax rates represented on a bill: the Buncombe County rate, the City of Asheville rate, and the Asheville City School rate. All rates are totaled to calculate the total tax liability. Tax rate estimates for our mountain communities can be found on page 127 of the Allen Tate/Beverly-Hanks Welcome magazine.
