Mariah Leahy
About Me
I grew up in a small town in rural Ohio with tons of farmland and cornfields. When I had the opportunity to relocate to St. John in the Virgin Islands, I packed two suitcases and bought a one-way ticket. Once there, I operated a successful hospitality business as I earned a bachelor’s degree in business marketing. I’ve always been accustomed to small towns, living with a true sense of community, and living on a rock in the middle of the ocean was no different. We looked out for our neighbors and gave back to our community, which is where I discovered my passion for helping others.
After five years and a few hurricanes, my sense of adventure turned my attention from the beach to the mountains. During an exhaustive search of places all over the country, I kept returning to Lake Lure and finally decided to call it home. I knew my skill set and experience would be best served helping others discover Western North Carolina and fulfill their real estate dreams.
Traveling is my first love, and I enjoy getting to meet new people and hearing life stories. I believe we can learn so much from each other’s experiences. I also enjoy spending time with my four-legged friend Henry, practicing my amateur photography skills, and having epic battles with the ground for plants I try to keep alive.
Experience
I love selling homes and hate selling myself, so this will be quick:
I have been a REALTOR® since 2012, and I am a Resort & Second Home Specialist. My first-hand experience of what it’s like to relocate from afar will serve your best interests along the journey of relocating permanently or finding a new vacation getaway. My expertise is listening to your wants and needs while creating realistic expectations to meet your goals. No matter if you're selling or buying, having open communication is a must in today’s real estate market.
It’s no secret this process can be stressful, so it’s important to have a knowledgeable and supportive agent on your side!

Ask An Expert
Is there a best time of the year to buy a house?
When it comes to buying a home, there are pros and cons for each season. Generally, the best season to buy a home is in late summer or fall. There are still plenty of homes for sale, but without the intense competition found during spring. Sellers are also known for being a bit more flexible this time of the year. Zillow reports that the highest number of listings with at least one price reduction are found August–September. However, the deeper buyers venture into fall, the less choice is available. If you value choice, and you want more buyers competing for the home you are leaving, spring could be your best season. Ultimately, the best time to buy a home is when you’re financially ready to do so.
