What is the “typical” home buyers are purchasing?
Each year, the National Association of Realtors® reports its insights into the characteristics of the homes purchased across the United States the previous year. Last year, 83% of the homes purchased were detached single family homes. There was only a median of 12 miles between the homes that recent buyers purchased and the homes that they moved from. Heating and cooling costs were the most important environmental features for recent buyers, with 84% finding these features at least somewhat important. For buyers 36 years and younger, commuting costs were more important than heating and cooling costs at 39% and 31% respectively. For buyers 36 years and younger, the expected length of time they plan to remain in the home they purchased was only 10 years, compared to 20 years for buyers 52–61 years.

My husband and I have bought and sold 3 homes in 3 different areas in the past 5 years. Mary is top notch as far as agents go and I'd say we have the highest of standards (my parents are agents in CT; I know what good and bad agents look like!). Mary is a true gem. She is pleasant, helpful, and thinks outside of the box. She was extremely patient with us (we ended up in a short term rental after moving here in November). Mary and I looked at probably every house in Arden, Fletcher, Asheville, and Weaverville in the $350,000-$500,000 price range that came on October - March. That was no small feat on her part. And she did it all with a smile on her face and never a feeling like we were annoying her. She listened to our wants and needs, helped us settle down the areas were were interested in, tried to get us into properties that were not on the MLS yet, and worked hard on staying in touch with the For Sale By Owner home we ultimately ended up buying. She also had to deal with a challenging agent on the seller's side.
