I hadn't realized at the time that during all our time together I had unwittingly been sizing her up, looking at how she handled her clients, evaluating what she said with the facts as I understood them to be. I liked the way she handled people. She was straightforward. Experience told me that she was honest. Occasionally, we would talk after she had closed a sale. I thought at the time: when the day comes for my wife and me to sell our house, I hope I can find an Opal Black to lead us through the process, never imagining that she would actually still be in business 40 years later! It was our lucky day when she agreed to work with us. The sale of our house was only part of the story. Opal went beyond what most sellers would probably expect, in that she helped my wife and me to get moved to our new place. (My wife suffered a stroke in the midst of the negotiations, and I was dealing with her and the medical community at the same time. Opal took it all in stride; talked me through the confusing aspects of the sale; and facilitated the move. In hindsight, I can't imagine how the "rest of the story" would have played out had she not been involved.) I met several of the staff; I don't recall names of the ones I did meet. I do know that Opal relies on them to get the job done. The photographer she used worked magic to make a so-so photo shoot come out looking like the Biltmore Estate. I was most impressed with Sonny Iler, a name I do remember! Opal called on Sonny to confirm how we should deal with a difficult buyer. Between the two of them, the strategy they agreed upon was the right one, I knew. I left their office that day knowing my wife and I were in good hands.
