What is the “typical” home buyers are purchasing?

Each year, the National Association of Realtors® reports its insights into the characteristics of the homes purchased across the United States the previous year. Last year, 83% of the homes purchased were detached single family homes. There was only a median of 12 miles between the homes that recent buyers purchased and the homes that they moved from. Heating and cooling costs were the most important environmental features for recent buyers, with 84% finding these features at least somewhat important. For buyers 36 years and younger, commuting costs were more important than heating and cooling costs at 39% and 31% respectively. For buyers 36 years and younger, the expected length of time they plan to remain in the home they purchased was only 10 years, compared to 20 years for buyers 52–61 years.

We had first approached Scott last year and informed him that we would be trying to buy a house in late 2017 but were interested in seeing what the houses looked like and the prices of the housing in the Asheville area. We wanted a house close to our daughter in Arden and he went out of his way to show us a lot of different properties so he could figure out exactly what we were looking for. It was a surprise to us when in January we were on a short trip to visit our daughter when a house was brought to our attention. We had originally set a budget and thought that this would be out of our range.. But with Scott's assistance we were able to get some information on the home. This house was located in Cummings Cove, Hendersonville and is part of a golf community. My husband is an avid golfer and a retired country club professional as well. So this property met all of his requirements!! We fell in love with this house. we decided to increase our budget to be able to get the home of our dreams, and Scott helped us with that process. He was so helpful and willing to answer any and all of our questions. A lot of time he had to do it without us as we had to return home. He saw to all the inspections, etc. He was even able to get an entire new wood floor installed due to so many problems with the old one. We were so impressed by that. The floors came out gorgeous! We would not have known we could have tried to get those types of improvements without his help. Scott went through this house (new construction) and found several things that needed to be repaired that we didn't even realize. I know I emailed Scott and called him on numerous occasions with my never ending questions and not once did he make me feel like I was bothering him. He was always courteous and laughing with us. He totally put us at ease with the entire process. Our closing was so simple and quick. He took us back to the house for the walk through. I have still been in contact with him and even though we have closed on the house, he has been very nice about answering any questions that we come up with. We are so very impressed with Scott and his professionalism but also with his personality and wit. We thoroughly enjoyed working with Scott and would definitely recommend him to anyone that is looking for an agent. Scott was extremely helpful to us. I emailed or called him constantly with questions and he was always very nice and willing to answer any and all of my questions. I was offered a job in the area back in February 2015, and didn't have the time to find a home then, and had to move into an apartment. While living in an apartment I began to get a feel of the area, and really find out where I would want to build/buy a home; and I determined that I would like to stay in the South Asheville area.
