About Me
Originally hailing from Northern Virginia’s Horse Country, I grew up deeply immersed in all things equestrian—from competitive show jumping to training and teaching riding classes. After graduating from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in English and sociology, I relocated back to the VA / DC area and began a position with a nonprofit group—creating opportunities for adults with severe and profound disabilities. I spent 10 years as an independent living consultant/job developer and was an integral part of moving my clients from controlled, institutional living situations into a new world, which allowed for more “open doors, choices and yes I can attitudes.”
After visiting and falling madly in love with the mountainous region of western NC many years ago, I decided, in 2005, to call the beautifully funky city of Asheville my forever home. Since starting my career in real estate 17 years ago with The Cliffs Communities, I have been fortunate to work with many of the premier, master planned communities in Western North Carolina. My dedication to the entire relocation experience is readily apparent in my ability to actively listen to each client and creatively pair their needs and desires, ultimately resulting in perfect solutions. My goal as a real estate broker is to make every client feel like my only client. In my spare time, you’ll find me on my mat in the hot yoga studio, hanging with Brian and Birdie, my 2 sweet rescue pups, working with animal rescue organizations, or checking out the many fantastic live music venues in downtown Asheville!.
Experience
I have been a Licensed North Carolina Real Estate Broker since 2009 with a focus in the Master Planned Community New Home and Custom Build Market here in the Mountains of Western NC. Starting my real estate career with The Cliffs Communities in South Carolina, over the years I have had the great pleasure of working closely with some Western North Carolina's most premier lifestyle based community developers. This experience in turn has allowed for me draw on my vast knowledge of community opportunities in the Carolina Mountains and "hold my client's hands" through the entire "shopping" experience. As a skilled "active listener" I am able easily navigate that would be "Google Rabbit Hole" and present viable options to clients based on their specific needs and preferences, preferred budget and timing to purchase. Understanding that scouting locales for retirement and / or buying a second home and narrowing down options can be time consuming and certainly a process. You don't make a decision like that over night. Realizing the significance of that process and the value of taking the necessary time for consideration combined with great product knowledge and years of experience in that retirement relocation vein is what makes me your Western NC Master Planned Community expert!

How is the tax bill of a home determined in North Carolina?
Real property is appraised at 100% of market value and includes land, buildings, structures, and improvements. State law requires counties to reappraise every eight years, but many counties reappraise every four. A bill can be a combination of tax rates. For example, a home inside the City of Asheville and Asheville City School districts will have three separate tax rates represented on a bill: the Buncombe County rate, the City of Asheville rate, and the Asheville City School rate. All rates are totaled to calculate the total tax liability. Tax rate estimates for our mountain communities can be found on page 127 of the Allen Tate/Beverly-Hanks Welcome magazine.
