Benjamin Moore: Metropolitan AF-690

Much like the sensibility the color embodies, Metropolitan AF-690, exudes glamour, beauty, and effortless balance and sophistication. According to Benjamin Moore & Co., in matters of decorating and design, it always finds common ground. From bold backdrops to reflective metallic accents, this easygoing neutral pairs well to help a modern home find its soft side.

“Metropolitan AF-690 emanates nuance, harmony, and extravagant ease,” said Ellen O’Neill, creative director at Benjamin Moore & Co. “Always adaptable, it softens to matte or shimmers with sheen. It’s neutral. It’s understated. It just is. This is color, off duty.”

Metropolitan AF-690 is supported by Color Trends 2019, a coordinating palette of 15 harmonious hues. See the palette at benjaminmoore.com.

Dunn-Edwards®: Spice of Life (DET439)

In these always-connected times, we start to crave real, genuine connections with the Earth and with each other. As a solution, Dunn-Edwards presents Spice of Life, a strong, enticing, spice-market blend adds a complex, flavorful seasoning to any home. Its earth-inspired hue is warm, inviting, adventurous, and life-affirming.

Spice of Life makes a bold statement and reflects exotic tastes in design and life, with a melding of diverse and global cultural influences. It was chosen as a representation of naturalist motifs, bohemian moods, the great American West, and an anticipation of exploring the red planet, Mars.

Graham & Brown: Tiru & Tori

Not to be outdone, Graham & Brown, based in the UK, has chosen to pair their Color of the Year with a Wallpaper of the Year. Inspired by classical Japanese theater, Tiru is a serene metallic teal paint taken from the Tori teal wallpaper. A hand-painted Chinoiserie bird trail on silk paper evokes Japanese style, while the rich, moody blue paint “celebrates tranquility, good luck, and longevity.”

“We have identified Kabuki [theater] as a key design influence for 2019 and the Wallpaper and Color of the Year 2019,” said Paula Taylor, Graham & Brown’s color and trend specialist, in a press release. “With a rich ancient history, entwining spiritual meanings and diverse mix of inspired imagery, Kabuki inspired this glamorous paper and color that transform traditional art into a modern style statement.”

PPG: Night Watch (PPG1145-7)

PPG, whose paint brands includes Glidden, Olympic, and more, believes the most impactful color trends for the upcoming year will be closely tied to nature. “The restorative power of nature is important in society now more than ever,” said Dee Schlotter, PPG senior color marketing manager. “Night Watch is about bringing the healing power from the outdoors into your home through color. The dark green hue pulls our memories of natural environments to the surface to recreate the calming, invigorating euphoria we feel when in nature.”

The black-infused green is designed to be used as a neutral or statement accent. Night Watch can make you feel healthy, grounded, and calm, allowing other coordinating décor colors or interior plants to be showcased against its luxe backdrop.

Sherwin-Williams: Cavern Clay SW 7701

Surround yourself with layers of warm simplicity. Envision beaches, canyons, deserts, and sun-washed late summer afternoons. Cavern Clay is a nod to mid century modern style, but with the soul of the American Southwest. The result is a warm terracotta color with ancient, elemental roots that brings the warmth of the outdoors in.

Cavern Clay’s warm, earthy hue is both casual and refined. It can be the backdrop of a playful, welcoming dining room or kitchen when paired with bright tiles, warm stone, and sculptural greenery. Wood furniture, leather upholstery, and worldly textiles work in concert with this hue to bring new life to any space.
