Some people flip tarot cards. Some read tea leaves. But as real estate experts, we prefer to analyze (some would say overanalyze) a different medium to make predictions about the year ahead.
Yes, we are once again talking about the Colors of the Year!
Our annual post examines the Colors of the Year chosen by each of the big-name paint and home decor brands for the year ahead. The colors are meant to tap into the sentiments of their customers to help them create the most balanced—and fashionable—homes on the block.
Check out each of the chosen Colors of the Year for 2022 below and why they were chosen. Then, let’s try to figure out the common thread woven through this tapestry of hues.

So, What Does this Say about 2022’s Color Trends?
The forward-looking color trends of 2020 and the temporally and spatially neutral colors of 2021 have given way to a relatively uniform set of hues inspired by the serenity of outdoor spaces. As Graham & Brown’s design manager MaryAnne Cartwright described their choice for 2022:
“This trend is all about nature reclaiming the man-made and putting the planet before ourselves. … The shade is tranquil and natural, bringing the outdoors in, which is especially important as the past couple of years have had us spending more time inside our homes.”
It seems that the lasting stresses of the pandemic have influenced each of these brands to similar ends. The blues and greens chosen as the 2022 Colors of the Year, while complemented by richer warm tones and reedy neutrals in their more robust 2022 color palettes, are obviously evocative of nature’s restorative side. 2022 is poised to take us back to our elemental spirit. And hopefully, with that, offer spaces of respite and rejuvenation where we need them most—at home.
