Agents Answer: What’s the Best Bakery for Pies and Other Holiday Treats

What is the best Western North Carolina bakery for pies and other holiday treats?

This week, bakers around the country are warming up their ovens for sweet Thanksgiving celebrations. One of our favorite ways to celebrate the season of thanks is by sharing a pie with our favorite friends, clients, and colleagues.

If that idea sounds appetizing to you, we welcome you to keep it local and support small businesses that have struggled through the challenges of the pandemic thus far. Purchase pies, pastries, and everything that inspires your sweet tooth from your favorite local bakery or pie shop.

Not sure where to call? Luckily, our agents are experts in finding homes that meet your tastes—and bakeries for holiday treats, too. We asked them: What is the best Western North Carolina bakery for pies and other holiday treats?

For those with food allergies who need to eat safely, there are several safe, dedicated gluten-free bakeries in Asheville that also are great with other food allergies. Check out Eat More Bakery, BimBeriBon, and Dolce di Maria. All are local and wonderful to work with!

Try Our Recipe Roots in Flat Rock. They are a family-owned local bakery that specializes in all types of pies, delicious cinnamon rolls, cookies, and many other baked goods. Everything is made to order, but you can also walk in and pick something up most days. Get there early since they usually run out.

Hands down, I recommend the Baked Pie Company! They have an amazing selection of both baked pies and cream pies that are made fresh daily. My personal favorite is the honey pecan, but if you are having a hard time choosing a flavor, you can order a pie flight and try three different types over a scoop of ice cream. The Baked Pie Company is the real deal!

My favorite bakery for fresh pies around the holidays is Baked Pie Company. I love baking a chocolate pecan pie, but if I go to the Baked Pie Company, I treat myself to the pie flight, which is a slice of pie (you can choose from three flavors) and a scoop of ice cream. I also really enjoy the J&S Cafeteria, which has delicious fresh pies and desserts.

I would recommend Gateaux Cakes & Pastries in Hendersonville. It is a locally owned and operated business established in 2016. I would recommend ordering their macarons for the holiday gathering, as it will allow you to have something different than pie to eat as a sweet treat. The macaron flavors vary each month, but the bakery is happy to take special requests. I’ve tried a variety of flavors, including the cookies & cream, and I think they are delicious. Whether you are hosting Thanksgiving or attending the holiday somewhere, I’d highly recommend these.

From McFarlan Bakery in Hendersonville, you can smell the deliciousness walking down the street. No wonder it’s been a local and tourist favorite for 80 years. You’ll often see a line formed outside the bake shop with folks just waiting to get in and select their favorite treat! Pies, cakes, pastries, and breads are made the old fashioned way and served by a warm and friendly staff. Locals and visitors can always be found enjoying a special treat and many come year round to taste the goodness sold here.

Well-Bred Bakery is always my go-to! With several locations, it’s easy to have great holiday treats on the table.

Wildflour Bakery in Saluda is our go-to for any baked goods or pies during the holidays. Their products are delicious and taste just like homemade.

Fletcher Village Bakery is awesome! They not only make delicious pies and cakes, but they have a large variety of cookies, cupcakes, breads, and muffins. They even serve lunch. You can’t go wrong when ordering from Fletcher Bakery. It’s a great way to impress your family around the Thanksgiving table.

Our Recipe Roots in Flat Rock is AMAZING! My favorites, the coconut cream and key lime pies, are sweeter than sweet. The vidalia onion pie is not too sweet; and the cinnamon rolls are just right. Jessica and Barb, mother and daughter, are pretty sweet themselves. Check out their seasonal specialties.

Blue Ridge Bakery is my choice for holiday pies! The pecan is my personal favorite, but the apple is a very close second. They make it so easy to have a homemade holiday treat that everyone can enjoy without the hassle.

Meg’s Bake Shop does the cutest custom-decorated cookies! My granddaughters love the “paint your own” cookies, too.

Baked Pie Company not only has the most amazing pies, but their selections also include gluten free, sugar free, and vegan options. My personal favorite is their honey pecan. Grab an entire pie, a slice, or a pie flight—three slivers of pie and ice cream. Yum!

There is a reason Well-Bred Bakery has been voted “Best of WNC” for seven consecutive years. This award-winning bakery, serving locals and tourists alike for nearly 20 years, now boasts four locations. Whether you are craving something sweet or savory, making a decision will inevitably be your biggest struggle. There is something to satisfy even the most discerning palates. My personal favorite is the chocolate éclair. Showing not even a modicum of restraint, the only dilemma is always go big, or go BIGGER!
