We may be well past the holidays, but the weather outside is still frightful! And with the pandemic still raging, the social climate is even more treacherous right now. Best to just stay put and enjoy dinner at home. But where do you turn when it’s time to eat but the fridge is empty?

Whether because of ongoing social distancing or just the winter chill, staying home has never looked like a better option! We asked our agents: What are your go-to food delivery options in WNC? Their responses ran the gamut, from vegan to meat-friendly, and from local restaurants to dedicated food delivery services. Here are their responses, divided by business type.

Food Prep and Delivery Services

Eden-Out in Woodfin prepares delicious vegan meals, which can be picked up or delivered. Every meal is 100% plant-based, nutrient dense, and prepared by creative chefs with local and organic ingredients. The menu changes each week and includes a nice variety of traditional favorites, homestyle comfort foods, salads, soups, dessert, and even some exotic twists. They are a local, family-owned business.

I’ve been ordering weekly produce deliveries from Mother Earth Food for nearly two years now! I’ve always loved the service, but man oh man, it’s been invaluable during the pandemic. There are different levels of boxes depending on the size of your household. I chose an option that lets me customize seven fruits and veggies every week. I can also add on other items like local eggs, oat milk, Hickory Nut Gap meats, and more. They bring it every week to my doorstep, and it’s such a treat making healthy meals out of local and regional goodies. Plus, I have the joy of supporting locals on several levels. If I’m going to be out of town or unavailable, it’s super easy to opt out of a weekly delivery. Two thumbs up.

Kanini’s offers fresh, quick, nutritious, pre-prepared dinner options! This takes the time and stress out of preparing a healthy home-cooked meal so that you can enjoy a relaxed evening at home, spending quality time with loved ones. Allow eating to be satisfying, intimate, and fun.

They offer a scratch-made menu made with options ranging from classic comfort foods to vegan, gluten sensitive, and low-carb. They use the freshest ingredients and support local farmers whenever possible. Their Dinners “To Go” are made that day and are ready to take home to the dinner table.

Local Restaurants Offering Takeout and Delivery

My husband and I absolutely love getting takeout from Little Bee Thai. They don’t do delivery, but they do have a very safe pickup system, and it’s worth it to get a taste of the most authentic Thai food in Asheville! We love their green curry with chicken, their spring rolls, and their crab and shrimp rolls (and don’t forget a Thai iced tea). We find ourselves ordering dinner from Little Bee almost every week—it’s very crave-able!

All Day Darling has been my go-to spot since it opened, but especially now during the pandemic. Although I prefer to perch on one of their outdoor tables and sip their finely crafted cappuccino, ordering takeout is another great option. Whether it’s breakfast for dinner—the shakshuka is sublime—or a Thunderbowl of gluten-free fried chicken, this Montford gem will satisfy your cravings each and every day, my fellow Asheville darlings.

Despite the blatant self interest, I think we do a great job with delivery (via Uber Eats and Takeout Central) at Gan Shan West. Our rice bowl is a delicious, comforting dish that is easily customizable that won’t break the bank. Asheville Citizen-Times did a recent story on it here

Otherwise, the Chai Pani butter chicken is perfect take out. It packs a punch of spice and flavor that enlivens any cold winter evening.

My wife and I love to order out from Gan Shan West with it’s truly authentic flavors and aromas you just can’t find anywhere else! House specialties like their Pork Ramen or the Gan Shan West Rice Bowl with Black Bean Chicken are among our favorites, along with sides of dumplings (we love the dumpling dip sauce!) and Dan Dan Brussell Sprouts. We live across town on the east side and delivery is still super quick! Our dinner always arrives hot, tasty, and very safely packed in mostly recyclable or compostable packaging.

My whole family loves Pi-Squared Pizza in Hendersonville. Everything we have tried is delicious! My favorites are the authentic Detroit-style square Hawaiian pizza, boneless wings with Sweet Heat sauce, and Cheesy Pi Bread!

Kelsey Clark

Carolina Empanada Company food truck in Burnsville, operated by Alex, has Cuban coffee and delicious empanadas (pork, chicken, beef, and veggie). Find it located on Main Street Burnsville beside the Rescue Dog Cafe with picnic tables for outdoor dining or for grab-and-take to eat on the run.
