Thanksgiving is all about sharing a great home-cooked meal with your loved ones. Turkey and gravy. Mashed potatoes. Green beans and black-eyed peas. A big slice of pie with a dollop of fresh whipped cream! The only thing better than the food is the company.
But in Western North Carolina, it’s easy to get good homestyle food at our area’s best restaurants any time of the year. It’s easy to bring your friends. And you don’t have to worry about the dishes!
If you can’t wait for the big meal next week, you don’t have to. Luckily, our agents know the best places for a great homestyle meal. We asked them: What are the best homestyle restaurants in WNC?
The Corner Kitchen in Biltmore Village offers a modern upscale take on traditional homestyle meals. Their menu is served with great cocktails in a family homestyle atmosphere. It’s definitely one of my favorite local restaurants!
In the Flat Rock area of Henderson County, you can’t beat Honey and Salt for breakfast, lunch, and baked goods! They use locally sourced, organic foods for a true farm-to-table handcrafted meal. They’re very popular, especially on weekends, so expect a wait, but know that it’s worth it!
We love HomeGrown on Merrimon Avenue in Asheville. Nothing beats their buttermilk chicken sandwich with pickled onions, and garden salad with peppercorn ranch dressing. Everyone we’ve ever sent there has agreed. Call in a takeout order and Go To The Front Of The Line!
I grew up vacationing in Northern Canada. For years, I missed the French Canadian dishes I looked forward to at every visit, until the opening of Sawhorse. The owner and chef at Sawhorse has deep family roots in the North as lumber camp cooks, and it has become a passion to share those traditional comfort foods with the South. Their pancakes are truly the best you will ever taste, and ordering the traditional poutine (french fries covered in cheese curds and gravy) is an absolute must! For myself, this has been one of those amazing examples of how food can transport you to another place and time.
