Western North Carolina is a great place to raise a family. And one of the most fun occasions for both parents and kids is a child’s birthday celebration. While many great memories happen at home, sometimes it’s nice to celebrate in public—with family, friends, cake, gifts…and no dishes to wash afterwards.
But with so many tastes, interests, and ages among the kids invited to the party, how do you find a great spot that works for everyone equally? With so much local options, it can be difficult to narrow down your search to the perfect location.
Not sure where to start? As experts in the region, our Beverly-Hanks associates are well versed in all the best locations around, especially those that are kid friendly. We asked them: Where are the best birthday party spots for kids in WNC?
We recently went to Sky Zone trampoline park to celebrate a friend’s child’s birthday. Everyone had a blast jumping, climbing, challenging themselves on the Warrior Course, and playing dodgeball. There’s even a dedicated area for toddlers! You pay for the time you want to jump/play, which worked out great even though we were worn out after one hour when we paid for 1.5 hours!
Robert Lake Park in Montreat/Black Mountain is a great spot for kids’ parties! The playground area has lots of fun equipment, is surrounded by creeks, and it’s fun to plan to let your kids to get wet. There are LOTS of trees. And it is near the Lookout Trail—one of our area’s terrific trails. Plan to picnic, too—several picnic tables are available.

This is one topic I know about! The Hop on Merrimon Avenue offers a variety of birthday packages perfect for every budget. Mountain Play Lodge on Sweeten Creek Road also offers two themed party rooms and a party attendant that will assist with everything from decorating to clean up!
Can I do a shameless self promotion?!? I own and operate More Than Just a Princess, which lets you hire a princess (or prince or pirate or fairy or Barbie) to come to your event! I’ve done doctors’ offices, pediatric dentists, charity events, school fundraisers, the Asheville marathon, and County Parks and Rec, as well as private birthdays at homes, roller rinks, ice cream shops, bounce houses, play lodges, and restaurants. Find my page on Facebook: More Than Just a Princess. Check out the photos and give it a like!
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a great money-saving destination to hold a child’s birthday party. Find a great kid friendly hike like Craggy Gardens and have a “Hike with ….” birthday party. We did “Hike with Hank” for his first birthday party and he loved it!

School-age kids love birthdays at Asheville Pizza and Brewing on Merrimon Avenue. There is a huge game room where you can have a pizza and arcade party, or the $2 per ticket movie theater where kids can have pizza while watching a movie! There is always a kids matinee on weekends.
Hands On! Children’s Museum on Main Street in Hendersonville is so much fun! They allow free time for the kids to play in the interactive museum, followed by a celebration in a private party room where you can set up your own food, cake, and decorations. They even provide a gift to the guest of honor. Our kids beg to go every weekend! They change up the activities from time to time so there’s usually something new and appropriate for all ages. But the ice cream parlor, grocery store, and jumbo foam blocks are fan favorites.
We just had a birthday party for our four year old at Sky Zone and he loved it! January parties can be hard because the weather is unpredictable and I’m glad we had a warm, inside place to go because it was a freezing cold and windy day. It was easy, fun for the kids, and the best part for parents is that when it is over, it is over! No clean up!

Smoky Mountain Jumphouse in Waynesville is great! They have private party rooms and you can also rent out the entire building for a very reasonable fee. Also, the Waynesville Recreation Center has an amazing indoor pool for kids and great for parties!
Our kids love birthday parties at Launch Trampoline Park or Sky Zone! They love the trampolines, basketball, dodgeball, and obstacle courses!
Asheville Treetops Adventure Park is one of the coolest new things to do in town! The ropes courses are interesting, challenging, and there are different levels for everyone’s comfort zone. The cool thing about doing a party there is that the adults can stay and participate too—and trust me, kiddos love watching their parents clinging to rope 30 feet off the ground!
