Hunter Subaru Legacy Run
When: Saturday, May 6, 2017, Half marathon starting at 7:30am
Where: 123 East Main Street, Brevard
What: Run or walk (strollers and pets welcome) for charity—half marathon, 5K, or Kids’ Fun Run options. The Legacy Run is billed as “the Fastest, Flattest Course in the Mountains!” Then stay to experience 250 waterfalls and 100,000 acres of epic hiking, mountain biking, and trail running around Brevard. Marathon winners receive cash prizes.
Who: Benefiting Inheritance of Hope, a charity that serves young families facing the loss of a terminally ill parent. Says the nonprofit: “Your run or walk makes a lasting legacy possible for families in the endurance challenge of navigating terminal illness.”

Walk a Mile Asheville
When: Saturday, May 6, 2017, 10:00am
Where: Pack Square Park/Roger McGuire Green in downtown Asheville
What: Walk a Mile Asheville is considered the “People’s March to End Rape, Sexual Assault, and Gender Violence”. Participants walk a mile in the shoes of another through the streets of downtown Asheville. It is a symbolic gesture of community responsibility and solidarity, as well as a great way to raise awareness about a very serious issue in a fun, family-friendly environment.
Who: Benefiting Our VOICE, Buncombe County’s sexual assault service agency. Walk a Mile Asheville has been voted in the top three fundraising events in Mountain Xpress’s “Best of WNC” contest three years in a row and is the top fundraiser for Our VOICE.

Movie in the Meadow
When: Saturday, May 13, 8:30pm
Where: Morse Park, Lake Lure
What: Bring the family to a movie in the meadown! “Over the Hedge” (2006) is a PG-rated animated film about a scheming raccoon who fools a mismatched family of forest creatures into helping him repay a debt of food. By invading the new suburban sprawl that popped up while they were hibernating, the raccoon learns a lesson about family himself.
Who: Benefiting Lake Lure Classical Academy, a tuition-free, public charter school in the Lake Lure area serving students in grades K–12.
Saluda Arts Festival
When: Saturday, May 20, 2017, 11:00am–4:00pm
Where: Main Street, Saluda
What: Now in its 14th year, the Saluda Arts Festival hosts more than 75 visual fine arts and crafts artists along historic Main Street who hail from all over WNC and the SC Upstate. An additional six performing artists entertain the crowds with a variety of musical genres from Americana to jazz. Artists represent all mediums, including paintings, woodworking, glass, metal, pottery, photography, fiber art, jewelry, and more. Sponsored by the Saluda Business Association, there is plenty of parking, shuttle transportation, and delicious food from local restaurants. Rain or shine!
