For more than 40 years, Beverly-Hanks & Associates has invested in community. Our commitment to service across Western North Carolina is inspired by our long-lasting relationships with our customers, clients, and the community at large. But more importantly, our agents and staff are members of these unique communities, and we’re always excited to support them at local events.
We recently participated in one fun event, and wanted to share the results with you:
Daniel Boone Council, Boy Scouts of America 16th Annual Sporting Clays Classic
August 16, 2018 | Smoke Rise Field Club, Rosman, NC
Sporting clays is a form of clay pigeon shooting, often described as “golf with a shotgun.” Unlike trap and skeet, sporting clays simulates the unpredictability of live-quarry shooting. A great variety of trajectories, angles, speeds, elevations, distances, and target sizes are presented. A typical sporting clays course includes 10–15 different shooting stations laid out over natural terrain. For safety, the course size is often no smaller than 35 acres.
For the 16th Annual Sporting Clays Classic, each of the 30 teams was treated to a relaxing day of food, fellowship, and a great clays shoot at Smoke Rise Field Club. Teams were provided with 100 rounds of ammo per shooter, goodie bags, and a nice pull-over shirt.
“Daniel Boone Council, BSA’s Sporting Clays Classic is a fun-filled day of camaraderie and fellowship for our corporate sponsors, all in support of Scouting’s leadership and character development programs in Western North Carolina,” said Paul Hollier, Senior Development Director. “We cannot thank our participants and corporate sponsors enough for their investments in Scouting and helping us shape the future leaders of our communities.”
The event benefits Daniel Boone Council, headquartered in Asheville, North Carolina. Daniel Boone Council trains young people to make ethical and moral choices by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Proceeds from the tournament help the council grow and strengthen their Scouting programs for nearly 4,000 local youth, as well as maintain facilities and improve programs at Camp Daniel Boone. Camp Daniel Boone is one of the premier camps in all the Boy Scouts of America, with an additional 5,000 Scouts visiting from all over the country each summer. A portion of the money raised also goes to support BSA’s Program Assistance fund, which provides financial assistance to families who may need help with registration, uniforms, or transportation to summer camp.
“We are proud to support scouting and their youth character building programs, which strengthen our Western North Carolina communities,” said Beverly-Hanks President Neal Hanks, Jr.
At the end of the day, the 16th Annual Sporting Clays Classic raised $34,500 for the Daniel Boone Council!
The morning flight winners were: Jeff Montjoy, Robert Bell, Randy Hyatt, and Frank Smith.
The afternoon flight winners were: Robert Powell, Tim Wright, Clay Carrol, and Dennis Horton.
