When you were young, were you that kid who always wanted to touch things at the museum? Maybe, like us, you still have to fight that tactile urge to reach out.

Today, we shine a light on Hands On!, located on Main Street in Hendersonville. The children’s museum offers one of the more unique ways to Live Abundantly in WNC. We invite you to learn more about Hands On! and how you can help them meet their mission.

What is Hands On! Children’s Museum?

Hands On! Museum: A Child’s Gallery is a site where learning comes to play. The interactive museum lets children aged 1–10 (and the grown-ups who accompany them) indulge their tactile desires at an interactive gallery and museum. The goal is to get children involved in learning first hand to stimulate their imaginations and boost their skills in a fun, safe environment.

What Programs do They Offer?

STEAM learning is at the forefront of every program at Hands On! Their 12 interactive, educational exhibits offer spaces to engage, explore, and discover. Exhibits cover a range of focus areas, from science and nature to literacy and health.

In addition to exhibits, Hands On! hosts a variety of programs, including a weekly Mad Science Lab and Critter Crafts, as well as special events like MakerSpace and Blue Ridge Humane Day. Opportunities for field trips, special events, and birthday parties round out kids’ opportunities to experience new exhibits and grow their skills.

How can I Support Hands On! Museum?

There are many ways you can help this local museum make a big impact in children’s lives.

Become a Member

Create memories that will last a lifetime with unlimited admission to the Hands On! Children’s Museum. Annual membership also helps the museum’s continuing efforts to offer unique, interactive exhibits and educational programs. These affordable memberships come in three “sizes”: Me and You, Family, and Grandparents Membership.

Celebrate a Birthday

The museum is the perfect place to celebrate a birthday with family and friends! Party reservations include one hour in the party room, with unlimited museum play from the start of your party reservation time.

Take a Field Trip

Whether you’re with a school or the Scouts, the museum is a great place to see STEAM lessons in action. Hands On! exhibits and special programs stimulate the imagination and educate the mind by focusing on science, technology, engineering, math, art, literacy, and culture. Group admission of 12+ includes free admission for chaperones.

Make a Donation

Hands On! was not immune to the effects of COVID-19. With their doors closed for almost half a year, coupled with the cancellation of major fundraising events, the museum has struggled to generate the earned and contributed revenue needed to sustain operations. Your generous donations will help keep the museum open and provide at-risk and underserved populations the opportunity to visit the museum for free.

Take the Mighty Mud Run

As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, Hands On! is committed to remaining affordable in addition to educational and fun. For that reason, the organization hosts the annual Mighty Mud Run, their largest fundraiser of the year. Teams of four choose their racer category levels and compete on a muddy run of 3+ miles with 30+ obstacles. By the time you reach the finish line, you’re as exhausted from laughing as you are from the exercise.

Beverly-Hanks has cheered on teams of competitors in years past, so we can vouch for the opportunity to get down and dirty for such a good cause. We welcome you to keep an eye out for the next Mighty Mud Run and join the fun!
