Join Us to Meet Artist Akira Satake This Thursday

dsc_01711Please join us on Thursday, June 13th for a reception as we welcome local award-winning artist Akira Satake to the Beverly-Hanks Real Estate Discovery Center. His original pieces will be displayed for a short time and we are excited to have him with us to answer questions about his work and why he chooses to live in Western North Carolina.


Akira Satake was born in Osaka, Japan and has been living in the U.S. since 1983. In 2003 he relocated from Brooklyn, New York to Swannanoa, North Carolina, where he has a wood-fired kiln and a gas kiln. He is the recipient of numerous awards, most recently the National Award for Excellence in Contemporary Clay. He did a lecture and solo exhibition at Illinois Wesleyan University and was an invited artist/lecturer for Israel pottery symposium. Akria’s work has been exhibited at SOFA NY, Smithsonian Craft Show, Philadelphia Museum Show, and the Mint Museum Pottery Invitational just to name a few. His work is included in the permanent collections of The Mint Museum & the Sparta Teapot Museum.
