Karma Keg Nonprofit Winner Spotlight: Smart Start Partnership for Children

Karma Keg Nonprofit Winner Spotlight: Smart Start Partnership for Children

At Beverly-Hanks, we give generously of our time and support every day for the benefit of our community. Our giving is generally limited to the causes closest to the hearts of our leadership, agents, and staff. Last night at our most recent Karma Keg for Charity event, the crowd decided which local charity deserved additional support this season.

Countless studies have shown that one key factor for success in life is a quality early childhood education. Having access to such an education is just one way for children and families to Live the Life You Choose in Western North Carolina. Thanks to last night’s crowd, we’re able to donate nearly $2,500 to that cause.

About Smart Start Partnership for Children in Hendersonville

Smart Start Partnership for Children supports, educates, and advocates for strong foundations for young children in Hendersonville. They recognize that the first 2,000 days of a child’s life (before they begin kindergarten) is an important period of brain development. The foundation set during this time helps kids prepare for school, have higher graduation rates, and grow into productive citizens and valuable employees.

Smart Start’s many programs are designed to provide the opportunities children need to be successful in school and life. Evidence-based early literacy programs assist parents in developing habits of daily reading with their children and assist children in discovering an early love of reading. Smart Start Scholarships help families afford high quality child care while parents work or attend school. And early education programs offer early educators the training and technical assistance needed to pursue a degree in early care and education.

Get Involved with Smart Start

You can support Smart Start’s mission by volunteering, advocating, or donating in kind. Early literacy volunteers work on their own schedules to do everything from helping register children for programs to helping with clerical tasks and traveling around the community to pick up books and distribute registration forms. Smart Start is also looking for volunteers to serve as community advocates and represent the organization on various committees.

If you’re short on time, there are still ways to help. Smart Start is always in need of new and gently used books for children ages 0–18. Consider donating children’s books you no longer need or organizing a book drive at your office, church, or book group.

Get More by Giving Back

Beverly-Hanks is immeasurably proud of our agents and staff for their regular involvement in strengthening the community through service and financial support. We were also excited to see such a great community turnout at last night’s Karma Keg event. And while we had a wonderful time, we know there’s still additional need!

Support local causes now and in the future by giving of your time and money to an organization like Smart Start that means something to you. Reach out to Smart Start or contact your Beverly-Hanks agent to learn about local nonprofits in your community.
