At Beverly-Hanks, we believe that every person in our community should have the opportunity and means to Live the Life You Choose. There is perhaps no better way to accomplish this than by Living United—a culture of advocacy and support engendered by the United Way.
Today, we take a closer look at one of our local independent United Way agencies, making a difference in Asheville and Buncombe County since 1921.
What is the United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County?
United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to building a caring community where everyone has the opportunity to achieve. United Way ABC works hard every day to ensure, among other things, a good education for our kids, a safe place to live, food on the table, and the security that comes with financial stability. Through their donors, volunteers, and partners, United Way ABC does what no single organization can do alone: create solutions that reduce the impact of poverty, transform individual lives, and drive systemic change that improves entire communities.
United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County’s Days of Impact
Days of Impact is the United Way’s semiannual block of volunteer days that pairs workforce volunteers with local nonprofits, schools, and public entities. Projects are designed to strengthen our community by focusing on education, income, and health goals that support the success of our community’s students, families, and neighbors. The programs are coordinated by Hands On Asheville-Buncombe, the volunteer center of United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County.
This week, Beverly-Hanks mobilized 44 Asheville agents to volunteer at five organizations for the afternoon. We were so excited to:
- Organizing the kitchen of the CARING for CHILDREN Cornerstone Transitional Group Home.
- Tend the veggie gardens and the outdoor classroom spaces at Vance Elementary School.
- Mulch the North Windy Ridge Intermediate nature trail in preparation for student learners.
- Present Stewie the Duck program to local kindergarten classes on behalf of the American Red Cross.
- Harvest sweet potatoes at Bounty & Soul’s Swannanoa location to provide fresh produce throughout the fall.
Here are just a few of the smiles we made while giving back.
A big thank you to all of the amazing volunteers from @beverlyhanks and @givenshighlandfarms who came out for United Way’s Days of Impact! They worked hard harvesting 365 lbs of sweet potatoes and giving the fences and landscaping at the Bounty & Soul office a facelift! #liveunitedabc #daysofimpact #unitedway
