Here are three fun ways to "spring forward" in Hendersonville, NC.

After dark and dreary winter days, the coming of spring weather and sunlight is always a welcome sight! There is much to look forward to, from bright daffodils to pleasant bird songs. But one thing looms over it all, threatening to ruin the first truly nice weekend of the year:

Daylight Saving Time.

We won’t add to the debate about its value. Instead, we’re here to help you make the most of your lost hour of the morning. Here are three fun ways to “spring forward” in Hendersonville, NC.

Skip straight to brunch

Arguably, the best thing about waking up “an hour later” on Sunday is that you don’t have to wait so long for brunch! There are any number of great brunch restaurants in Hendersonville, from the traditional American fare of Kosta’s Fireside Restaurant and Pancake Inn to the innovative menu at HenDough. But by our count, only one restaurant in town has brunch in the name.

Arabella Breakfast & Brunch only offers classic, fresh, homemade, and locally sourced American and Latin breakfast and brunch dishes. Located on Main Street just a few doors down from our office, Arabella is one of our favorite spots for “delicious food, excellent service, and [a] relaxing atmosphere.” They handcraft each of their brunch cocktails and espresso drinks. And with ticket times under 10 minutes, you know you never have to wait long for your stack of pancakes, custom omelet, or huevos rancheros.

Soak up some sun

Benjamin Franklin invented the idea of daylight saving to make better use of daylight. So this year, why don’t you do just that? We’ve written before about ways to enjoy the outdoors in Henderson County, but that list was just the tip of the iceberg. Hendersonville is known as the City of Four Seasons because it offers countless opportunities to get outside any day of the year. The town sits at the top of a scenic mountain plateau amid thousands of acres of protected land coloring the Great Smokies and Blue Ridge Mountains. From town, you’re just a short drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway to Mt. Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi River.

Hendersonville is also home to a handful of public and private golf courses, including the exclusive Champion Hills Golf Course. But if you’re looking for something fit for the whole family, that’s easy to find, too. We love visiting the newly renovated 18-hole miniature golf course at Fireside Golf. This course offers fun for kids of all ages while also challenging more serious players. (Watch out for Hole 8.) The landscaping is inspired by WNC, and the waterfall is one of the nicest you will see around. Plus, you can say hello to Chip and Bogey, the two Nigerian Dwarf goats who have taken up residence in the middle of the course!

Take advantage of longer evenings

Here are six spots to find a tasty local cider in Hendersonville.

Another great perk of shifting our clocks forward is the extra sunlight in the evenings. Extend your day out in Hendersonville by enjoying more of the great restaurants, museums, general and specialty stores, art galleries, and other independent businesses the town has to offer. And beer lovers needn’t drive to Asheville to quench their thirst. Henderson County is home to a number of breweries, several of which are located in downtown’s burgeoning brewery district.

The town is also located in the heart of one of the most fruitful apple-producing regions in the U.S. Apples have been the traditional agricultural crop in Henderson County, especially since World War II. Today, the area retains its regional and national agricultural footprint. That has made Hendersonville a prime spot for cider production. From crisp and dry to mellow and sweet, ciders offer flavor profiles for every taste. We recommend topping off your evening at Appalachian Ridge Artisan Cidery, Flat Rock Cider Company, or Bold Rock Hard Cider, the largest craft cidery in the Carolinas.
