Fans of the NBC comedy Parks and Recreation may recognize October 13 as Treat Yo’ Self Day. On that date in 2011, two of the characters, Tom and Donna, celebrated an annual afternoon of “treating themselves” to whatever extravagant purchases they wanted.
This October, we’re challenging you to treat yourself to all the best things that Western North Carolina has to offer. And in the spirit of Pawnee, we thought we’d start with Donna and Tom’s favorite things.
We challenge you to treat yo’ self to these luxurious experiences:
Paris. London. New York. WNC. You may not think of this as a hub for fashion, but we definitely have our own style! From fun lines at Minx Boutique to screen printed originals from Jennythreads, there are many ways to find that perfect look for you. If you’re in the mood to treat yourself to some of the best designers in the world, we recommend J Smith Boutique. They have 1,500 square feet of luxury garb at guilt-free prices, so you can feel comfortable treating yourself to as much as you want!

It’s a little-known fact that the term “brunch” was invented as an excuse to have mimosas with breakfast. And in Asheville, the mimosas that reign supreme can be found at Sunny Point Cafe in West Asheville. This family-owned restaurant serves some of the best breakfast foods in the country, according to Good Morning America. But locals also love their famous 16-ounce Sunny Point Mega-Mosa and award-winning Spicy Bloody Mary. Treat yo’ self to one of each!

Fine Leather Goods
After all your shopping, you’re going to need a quality, large, leather tote in which to keep all the fun things you bought. If you’ve never heard of In Blue, now’s the time to check them out. Every piece they sell is trimmed, sewn, and stamped by hand from top grain cowhides. You may have seen In Blue at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival or Merlefest, but you can always find their journals, leather bags, wallets, and more online or around town. Treat yourself!

And if that’s not enough…
At Beverly-Hanks, we’re no stranger to sweet treats. We’ve been pretty open about our favorite chocolate shops and our love for cookies, ice cream, and pie. Our newest indulgence is freshly made macarons from Á La Mode Macaron on Merrimon Avenue. In addition to more than a dozen flavors of perfectly sized and stuffed meringue cookies, they have monstrous ice cream sandwiches too! Treat yourself to a few before they sell out for the day!
