Just to the east of downtown Asheville is Haw Creek. Named for the majestic valley where it lies, Haw Creek is a neighborhood of homes of varying styles and price ranges, all surrounded by the natural beauty of the area. With its thriving community association and well-maintained city parks, it has the feel of a planned community. The neighborhood backs up to the Blue Ridge Parkway and is crisscrossed with trails some of which lead to the Parkway, yet is still conveniently located very close to one of Asheville's main centers of commerce, the Asheville Mall and the shopping centers on South Tunnel Road.

Like most neighborhoods in Asheville, the city maintains wonderful public spaces for residents of Haw Creek. The East Asheville Center is part of the complex housing the East Asheville Branch Library and a fire station. Outside the center is a large playground, picnic tables, grills and a basketball court. Charlie Bullman Park, named after an Asheville legend in youth sports, features two lighted ballfields, concession and restrooms. Haw Creek Park, a neighborhood park featuring wooded natural areas, trails, a gazebo, restrooms, and a picnic shelter.
