BUYING PROPERTY IN SHERWOOD FOREST

In the words of the Asheville Citizen-Times after reviewing Sherwood Forest in the 1960s, “Arthur Middleton Dehon has done the seemingly impossible—he’s made real estate development and conservation compatible.” Unofficially named the Nation’s First Audubon Residential Community, Sherwood Forest was developed as, and remains, a community of congeniality and fellowship where neighbors share a love for the natural beauty and wildlife of the area.

Homes in Sherwood Forest are carefully constructed to disturb as little of the landscape as possible. Rich in history, the community is conscientiously neighborly and committed to protecting and conserving the native landscape.

SEE WHAT'S HAPPENING IN SHERWOOD FOREST

No bandits, plenty of banding together in Sherwood Forest.
The planned community of Sherwood Forest is a short eight miles to Downtown Brevard, yet has the feel of being otherworldly. In fact, it is well-admired for its strict protection of the natural beauty and wildlife of the area.

The entrance to Sherwood Forest, once past the golf course, is a calming immersion into an aged, natural forest. Four lakes, multiple streams, and seemingly endless trails are dispersed throughout the 1,000-acre development. Deer are often the source of momentarily stopped traffic, though “traffic” is hardly the word for two neighbors admiring wildlife.

Developed specifically to protect and promote the flora and fauna of the area, there are strict guidelines for building and residential enhancements in Sherwood Forest. As a result, the area has a congenial look and feel. Residents have a common theme: to live in harmony with the natural surroundings.

The community also features a pool, barn, gardens, and 18-hole golf course with llamas featured as occasional caddies (yes, llamas). These admitted quirks only add to the character of the neighborhood—for that is what it is. The Robin Hood Barn is the go-to location for community events, activities, and parties. And the Robin Hood Center is where one will find community yoga, dance, and group exercise classes.

At Sherwood Forest, neighbors are friends. And the sharing of harvests from the community garden, eggs from neighbors’ chickens, and information on where a pink lady’s slipper has been found on the trail are all part of life in Sherwood Forest.
