Burnsville (population 1,700) is the largest of the 11 townships in Yancey County, as well as the county seat. Located in the center of the county, Burnsville is 35 miles north of Asheville and 50 miles west of Johnson City, Tennessee. Burnsville offers many amenities within minutes of town, including county and regional libraries, public and private schools (elementary, middle, and high school), Mayland Community College, and a growing number of shopping, entertainment, and dining options.
