Few neighborhoods reflect the rich architectural heritage of Asheville as well as the Montford Historic District. A portion of this neighborhood was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1977, and in 1981, the Asheville City Council designated Montford as a local historic district.

Montford retains more than 600 buildings, most of which were built between 1890 and 1920.
