Additional Information

Avery Park Community

Avery Park is a gated community at the end of a picturesque three-mile long county road. Nestled in the mountains of the Pisgah National Forest, the community has 163 home sites (with roughly 70 homes) and an additional 22 acres of common space devoted to wildlife, woodlands, ponds, trails, a mountain view outdoor pool, tennis/pickle ball court, playground, cabana and community gardens.

A short drive to both Asheville and Hendersonville, Avery Park is, for its residents, the answer to "Where can we feel away from it all without denying ourselves the comforts and culture of civilization." It's a community of families, friends, and, like many who move to Western North Carolina, people who "aren't done yet."

It can be as communal or as private as you wish. Folks of all ages settle in Avery Park, drawn to that rare convergence of natural beauty and convenience. Dark skies at night, yet just minutes from restaurants, theaters and an abundance of shops and grocery stores. It's an easy commute to some of the top schools in Buncombe County, the Asheville airport, Asheville Outlets, downtown Asheville, medical facilities and the new world class Sierra Nevada Brewery, to name just few.

If you love hiking or biking your within minutes of the Blue Ridge Parkway (which can also be accessed from the community) and The Bent Creek State Park trail system. Serious trout and fly fisherman will delight in the ready access to the rivers, lakes and streams found throughout the region.

But what makes Avery Park so special? We think it's the people who are drawn to it. Some maintain their privacy, some don't. But most of the residents know each other by name, having either met at one or many of the community sponsored gatherings ranging from summer cocktails at the cabana, holiday dinner parties and potlucks, the hiking, gardening or book club. Or simply while walking their dogs.

Another unique aspect of the community is the house concerts hosted by two of the neighbors. It's a wonderful opportunity to share potluck dishes and listen to fantastic music by talented, renown artists such as Grammy and Indie winners Al Pettaway and Amy White; finger style guitarist Richard Smith; Amici Music, a local chamber music organization. They entertain us with their jazz, classical, celtic, bluegrass, and blues music to name a few.

We invite you to take a close look at this wonderful community and all that it offers.

Arden is an unincorporated community in south Buncombe County between Skyland and Fletcher. It's a quick jump off of Interstate 26, with Asheville 15 minutes to the north and Hendersonville 15 minutes to the south. It's just a few miles from the Asheville Regional Airport and right next door to some of the best spots on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The town is served by Glen Arden Elementary School, which opened in 1971 and expanded in 2001. Part of Buncombe County Schools, Glen Arden has been names a School of Excellence for the past seven years, meaning that at least 90 percent of its students are at or above the grade level. Glen Arden is one of the only two schools in North Carolina to achieve this status. In 1996, Avery's Creek Elementary opened it's doors to students, followed by Koontz Intermediate (5th and 6th grade) in 2011.

The community is bordered to the east by the French Broad River and just down the road from the North Carolina Arboretum. An extraordinary public garden that adjoins the Parkway, the 434-acre Arboretum has 65 acres of cultivated gardens and 10 miles of hiking and biking trails, hosts one of the most unique bonsai collections in the country, and stages a steady stream of exhibits on subjects ranging from mountain quilts to rare plants.
