Community: Clyde in Haywood County

This is a gorgeous tract of land that has great year around views. Even though it may seem to be located pretty far from town this tract of land is conveniently located only 9 minutes from I-40, and only 20 minutes from all that downtown Waynesville has to offer. A good portion of the land is gently sloping, while the other portion is steep. To access the property there is a newly done graveled pull-off right off the main road that will make a great start to a driveway. There is also a cleared walking trail up around the property. Come and check out this tract of land that has so much to offer. ... see more property features

Clyde, a hamlet that lies between Canton and Waynesville, can boast as its own the oldest structure in Haywood County. The Shook-Smathers House, home to the Shook Museum, was built around 1820, with additions and renovations made for decades producing the finished product we see today. The home's attic chapel played host to many storied circuit preachers over the years, many of whom have left their mark in the unique collection of signatures that decorate the chapel's walls.

Another memorial, made from steel taken from the World Trade Center, is slated to open in Clyde in 2011, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Clyde was given two of only around 1,000 piece of steel salvaged from the site to be used in memorials.
